Taipei: Former World Junior champion Goh Jin Wei seemed to have returned to form following a few months injury layoff, as she saw off Haruko Suzuki of Japan to advance into the women’s singles final of the Chinese Taipei Open Grand Prix Gold tournament at the Taipei Arena, Songshan, Taiwan on Saturday.
The 17-year-old Goh needed only 46 minutes to notch up her semi-final victory 21-16, 21-17 against Suzuki.
It will be Goh’s first final of 2017, and she will take on another Japanese player Saena Kawakami on Sunday.
Meanwhile, in the men’s doubles, Malaysia’s Chooi Kah Ming/Low Juan Shen gave a spirited fight against No. 2 seeds Chen Hung Ling/Wang Chi-lin of Taiwan, before going down 14-21, 21-19, 13-21 to the Taiwanese pair.
Aiming for a shot at his first career Grand Prix Gold final, Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia gave hometown favorite – No. 1 seed Chou Tien Chen of Taiwan run for his money in the semi-finals, stretching Chou to the limit but lost 21-15, 10-21, 12-21 in 51 minutes.
Chou Tien Chen is set to play compatriot and No. 2 seed Wang Tzu Wei in the final.
