Putrajaya: Women’s singles No. 1 seed Lee Ying Ying of Malaysia battled her way into the final of the Malaysia International Series on Saturday, as she overcame a slow start to beat Thamolwan Poopradubsil of Thailand 12-21, 21-14, 21-9 in 48 minutes.
Lee will battle compatriot Selvaduray Kisona in the final on Sunday.
Although Kisona did not make the cut to represent Malaysia in the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games, Kisona make her mark on the Malaysian women’s badminton team by taking firm control of the second and third set when she fought for 49 minutes to beat her senior in the Malaysia national team, Thinaah M. 15-21, 21-17, 21-12.
In men’s singles, No. 11 seed Cheam June Wei of Malaysia lived up to his billing by making a strong run with straight-set victory over compatriot and No. 4 seed Lee Zii Jia, winning the semi-final match 21-17, 21-19 in 34 minutes.
Cheam will meet unseeded Loh Kean Yew of Singapore on Sunday.
Two men’s doubles pairs from the host country have also entered the final, as No. 1 seeds Lee Jian Yi/Lim Zhen Ting will meet Chen Tang Jie/Soh Wooi Yik for the men’s doubles crown.
