Goh V Shem aims to regain his passion for badminton with Tan Wee Kiong

Kuala Lumpur: After enduring a difficult 2017 season with both Tan Wee Kiong and his new men’s doubles partner Teo Ee Yi, the Rio Olympic silver medalist Goh V Shem vowed to once again reignite his burning desire on the badminton court when he is set to rejoin Tan Wee Kiong early next season after their break up in August 2017.

The 28-year-old Malaysian men’s doubles ace who tied the knot with his long-time girlfriend Wong Pui Mei at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur last Saturday, told reporters that he was blessed to have married the lady that he has been dating for 7 years. Their wedding ceremony was attended by about 700 guests.

“We registered in May and I am really happy to marry Pui Mei in this grant ceremony,” said Goh.

Goh admitted that his performance with Tan Wee Kiong was not good enough during the first part of 2017, but he was excited to get a second chance so that he and Tan could play some of their best badminton together again.

“Our target is to re-enter the world’s top 10 ranking, and to help Malaysia qualify for the 2018 Thomas Cup Finals in Bangkok,” added Goh.

The 2016 BWF Superseries Finals was the last title won by Goh/Tan after winning silver medal at the 2016 Rio Games before they were separated in August 2017. The pair will renew their partnership and will play in their first tournament together at the Thailand Masters from Jan 9 to Jan 14, 2018.
