Ho Chi Minh City: Chinese shuttler Zhang Yi Man booked her place in the women’s singles final of the ongoing Vietnam Open BWF Super 100 tournament after registering a straight-game victory over compatriot Wang Zhi Yi on Saturday.
The fifth-seeded Chinese needed 39 minutes to outlast Wang 21-13, 21-19 in the semi-final and will play qualifier Asuka Takahashi of Japan in the final.
In men’s singles, Sourabh Verma faced stiff challenge from Minoru Koga of Japan before winning 22-20, 21-15. Verma is set to take on Sun Fei Xiang of China on Sunday. Sun, who won the 2016 World Junior Championships gold medal, defeated Lin Yu Hsien of Taiwan 21-17, 21-16 in the semi-final.
Choi Solgyu/Seo Seung Jae who squandered five championship points in last week’s Chinese Taipei Open final against Malaysia’s Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong, earned a chance to win their first ever international title as a pair in Vietnam Open final when they meet teammates Na Sung Seung/Wang Chan for the men’s doubles crown.
Meanwhile, women’s doubles No. 1 seeds Della Destiara Haris/Rizki Amelia Pradipta of Indonesia will play Huang Jia/Zhang Shu Xian of China and Taiwan’s mixed doubles pair, Lee Jhe-huei/Hsu Ya Ching will battle Guo Xin Wa/Zhang Shu Xian of China in the final.
