Kuala Lumpur: Taiwan’s World No. 2 women’s singles player, Tai Tzu Ying, won an electric semi-final match at the Malaysia Masters on Saturday, overcoming World No. 7 He Bingjiao with 21-17, 21-12 in 34 minutes at Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur.
Tai enjoyed a 7-2 career meeting record against He Bingjiao prior to the Malaysia Masters semi-final. They’ve met 6 times in the 2018 season alone, with Tai winning 5 and lost 1.
On Sunday, the Taiwanese player who finished runner-up at last year’s Malaysia Masters, earned a chance to exact revenge against China’s World No. 1 Chen Yufei for her defeat at last year’s BWF World Tour Finals. If Tai could beat Chen, she can return to the World No. 1 throne again in next week’s BWF rankings.
Meanwhile, China is guaranteed a gold in women’s doubles as No. 7 seeds Du Yue/Li Yin Hui will set up an all-Chinese clash against compatriots Li Wen Mei/Zheng Yu on Sunday.
