Six Malaysian Players Test Positive for COVID-19 After Tournaments in India

Kuala Lumpur: Six Malaysian shuttlers who recently competed at the 2022 India Open and the 2022 Syed Modi India International, including Chan Peng Soon, Teo Ee Yi, Ng Tze Yong, Tan Kian Meng, Vivian Hoo, and Lim Chiew Sien have all tested positive for COVID-19.

On Wednesday, Vivia Hoo posted on her social media platform that she was infected by COVID but asymptomatic. She and her women’s doubles partner – Lim Chiew Sien managed to advance to the quarter-finals of both India Open and Syed Modi International.

Lim wrote on her social media Friday to confirm that she was also diagnosed with COVID-19.

After the Syed Modi International, Hoo/Lim have traveled to Cuttack, India to participate in the 2022 Odisha Open, but had to withdraw from the tournament after being notified about the COVID-19 PCR test results.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s World No. 47 men’s singles player Ng Tze Yong posted on his Instagram story also on Friday with the following message:
“Hello everyone, just a quick update I tested positive when I reached Malaysia and today is my last day of quarantine.
I already recovered so don’t worry guys 🙂

Ng successfully made the 2022 India Open semi-finals, before losing to the eventual champion – Lakshya Sen 21-19, 16-21, 12-21. He then withdrew in the first round of Syed Modi.

There were seven Indian players found positive for COVID-19 during the India Open.

Interestingly, the Syed Modi India International men’s singles final between two French players – Arnaud Merkle and Lucas Claerbout was declared as a ‘No Match’ after one of them was tested positive for COVID-19, and another one had to withdraw as he was considered as a “close contact”.
