Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik Crash Out Early at Indonesia Open 2025

Jakarta, Indonesia – Malaysian men’s doubles stars Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik saw their quest for a first BWF Super 1000 title come to an abrupt end in the opening round of the 2025 Indonesia Open.

Competing at the iconic Istora Senayan arena in Jakarta, the third-seeded duo fell in a tightly contested three-game battle to Denmark’s Rasmus Kjaer and Frederik Sogaard, losing 13-21, 21-19, 18-21 in just under an hour.

Despite bouncing back impressively in the second game, the Malaysian pair appeared fatigued in the decider—likely a consequence of their packed schedule, which included four consecutive finals in just over a month.

Their recent run includes:

🏆 Asian Championships Champion

🏆 Thailand Open Champion (Super 500)

🥈 Malaysia Masters Runner-Up

🏆 Singapore Open Champion (Super 750)

The loss also marks the second time Aaron and Wooi Yik have fallen to the Danish pair in a first-round Super 1000 clash, having suffered a similar fate at the All England Open in March.

Missing out on the Indonesia Open title also means losing the lucrative $107,300 prize awarded to the men’s doubles champions.

Their final shot at a 2025 Super 1000 crown now rests on next month’s China Open.

Other Highlights from Day 1 at the Indonesia Open 2025:

Goh Jin Wei was eliminated by Scotland’s Kirsty Gilmour 20-22, 16-21 in women’s singles.

Women’s Doubles:
Despite swirling rumors, Malaysia’s Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah stayed composed and secured a straight-set win over Taiwan’s Sung Shuo Yun-Yu Chien Hui, 21-16, 21-17—mirroring their 2024 result.

Mixed Doubles:
Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie (WR #5) breezed past Thailand’s Phuwanat Horbanluekit-Sapsiree Taerattanachai 21-12, 21-16 in just 31 minutes. They face local duo Amri Syahnawi-Nita Violina Marwah in Round 2.
