Daren Liew cruises into second round at Indonesian Masters GP

Palembang: On Wednesday, Daren Liew breezed through the opening match of 2014 Indonesian Masters over Indonesian shuttler Rajid Patriawan 21-16, 21-16 in 28 minutes. Although it was still early in the competition, Daren Liew who was dropped from the Asian Games squad has shown encouraging signs of rejuvenation after a lackluster year.Daren Liew hopes to do well at Indonesia Masters GP

 

“I badly needed to win this after the Commonwealth Games disappointment. Hopefully I can remain strong throughout this tournament,” said Daren Liew. He will play Fikri Ihsandi Hadmadi of Indonesia in the second round on Thursday. Fikri knocked off Chong Yee Han of Malaysia 21-13, 21-13 in another opener.

 

Malaysia’s independent shuttler, Mohd Arif Abdul Latif survived an opening-match fright by outlasting Indonesia’s Briand Christofle 21-23, 21-6, 21-11, while the 2011 World Junior Champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli overcame a slow start to eventually winning over Andrew Susanto 17-21, 21-11, 21-12 to progress to the second round of the Indonesian Masters GP.

 

Other Malaysian shuttlers – Soong Joo Ven, Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub, Tan Kian Meng, and Soo Teck Zhi also advanced to the second round.
