Lima: China won an unprecedented tenth BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championships in Lima, Peru on Sunday when they defeated Indonesia 3-0 in the final to put the finishing touches to one of the greatest achievements in world junior badminton history.
After escaping a nerve-wracking semi-final scare against Japan on Saturday, which ended with a 3-2 victory in favor of China, the great wall of badminton was clearly paying full attention to Indonesia in the final. Indonesia have proved formidable to other teams when they were in sparkling form of their 3-1 victory over Chinese Taipei in the semi-final.
Chen Qingchen and Zheng Siwei of China got off to a good start on Sunday to give China a 1-0 lead when they defeated Marsheille Gischa Islami and Andika Ramadiansyah 21-10, 21-14 in the mixed doubles match.
China’s men’s singles shuttler Lin Guipu recovered from a semi-final disappointment where he lost to Koki Watanabe on Saturday, to secure a 2-0 victory for China over Indonesia when he swept past Panji Ahmad Maulana 21-11, 21-16 in 40 minutes.
Despite their semi-final loss to Kenya Mitsuhashi/Yuta Watanabe of Japan, Chinese head coach remained confident on He Jiting and Zheng Siwei, and it paid off. He Jiting and Zheng Siwei made the men’s doubles match looked all too easy by battling past Andika Ramadiansyah/ Rinov Rivaldy of Indonesia 21-13, 21-10 in 26 minutes to help China clinched their 10th world junior mixed team championships.
“We are very happy to win this championships, we have great respect for the Indonesian team. Our players played much better in the final compare to our performance in the semi-finals,” China’s team manager Lu Sida told reporters after the tie.
Meanwhile, Chinese Taipei defeated Japan to take the third place, while the Malaysia badminton juniors finished fifth in the tournament.
