Kuching: The 2015 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) women’s doubles champion Amelia Alicia Anscelly who was born in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, has announced her retirement from the Badminton Association of Malaysia on Sunday.
Anscelly who joined BAM in 2012 was obviously unhappy that BAM kept pairing her with different partners, which affected her consistency in producing good results.
The former World No. 17 women’s doubles player achieved her best results with Soong Fie Cho, where both won the women’s doubles title at the 2015 Indian Open Grand Prix Gold and the Singapore SEA Games.
After Soong Fie Cho suffered a knee injury in January 2016, Anscelly has started to play with Teoh Mei Xing and then Goh Yea Ching.
“It’s been difficult. As soon as Mei Xing and I were starting to show good result, she was assigned to different partner,” said Anscelly.
“With Yea Ching, since both of us are attacking players, our playing styles make it hard for us to complement each other very well in all aspects,” said Anscelly.
BAM’s deputy president Mohamad Norza who was asked by reporters after attending a meeting on Tuesday, said he would hold a meeting with Anscelly about her decision to quit BAM.
“The technical director Morten Frost Hansen handed me a copy of her resignation letter, and Amelia said she wanted to pursue a career outside of BAM,” said Norza.
“I will talk to Amelia to understand what was the main reason for her to make that decision,” added Norza.
