Women's singles No. 6 seed Yao Jie of the Netherlands and the fifth seed of men's doubles Chan Chongming from Malaysia have pulled out of the ongoing World Badminton Championships.
Yao, who beat Yu Hirayama, Japan, 21-16, 21-11 in the first round on Monday, said she withdrew from the competition in fear of injury recurrence.
"I felt not good about my right calf after the game of Monday. It was injured before. If I continue to play, it would compound the injury," she said.
Chan has flew back to Malaysia on hearing his father died of cancer on Tuesday, his coach disclosed.
