ZAKRY Latif-Fairuzizuan Tazari stayed on course for their second consecutive title while the newly paired Hoon Thien How-Ong Soon Hock scored another upset on their way to the semi-finals of the Indonesia Open in Jakarta yesterday.
Zakry-Fairuz, the Singapore Open champions, were unstoppable as they cruised to a 21-12, 21-12 win over Muhammad Ahsan-Bona Septano of Indonesia in 26 minutes.
Thien How-Soon Hock, who sent fourth seeds Shuichi Sakamoto-Shintaro Ikeda of Japan packing in the second round, battled hard for a 27-25, 20-22, 22-20 win over seventh seeds Carsten Morgensen-Mathias Boe of Denmark in the quarter-finals which lasted 69 minutes.
Zakry-Fairuz face a tricky semi-final against South Koreans Ko Sung Hyun-Kwon Yi Goo, who defeated Keita Masuda-Tadashi Ohtsuka of Japan 21-7, 21-16, today.
Thien How-Soon Hock need another Herculean effort as they will play the experienced Indonesian-American pair of Candra Wijaya-Tony Gunawan, who toppled World No 1 Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia 21-18, 18-21, 21-10, in the last four today.
In the women's doubles, Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui failed to make an impact against Indonesia's Vita Marissa-Lilyana Natsir, losing 21-15, 21-15 in the quarter-finals.
KLRC Bhd shuttler Lee Tsuen Seng's run also ended in the quarter-finals when he was beaten 21-15, 21-16 in 42 minutes by Simon Santoso of Indonesia.
