SINGAPORE, June 27, 2025 – Malaysia’s top-ranked men’s doubles pair, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, are set for a fierce showdown in the Singapore Open 2025 quarterfinals against former World No. 1 duo from India, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty.

Malaysia’s World No. 1 Duo Cruises Into Quarterfinals

Ranked World No. 1, Sze Fei and Izzuddin confidently dispatched compatriots Wan Arif Junaidi and Yap Roy King with a clinical 21-13, 21-11 win in just under 30 minutes at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Despite the dominant performance, Izzuddin remained grounded, acknowledging room for improvement heading into the Super 750 clash:

“We’re happy with the win, but there’s still plenty to work on. We’ll focus on enjoying the game and staying prepared,” he told BWF post-match.

Satwik-Chirag Set for Revenge

India’s Satwiksairaj-Chirag showed grit by bouncing back from a game down to defeat Indonesia’s World No. 8 pair Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani 19-21, 21-16, 21-19.

The Malaysians have a 2–6 head-to-head record against the Indian duo but claimed their most recent encounter at this year’s India Open semifinals, eventually winning the title.

Adding to the drama, Satwik-Chirag are now coached by Malaysia’s former head coach Tan Kim Her, making this a high-stakes tactical battle as well.

All-Malaysian Clash: Aaron-Wooi Yik vs. Wei Chong–Kai Wun

In another quarterfinal, Olympic bronze medalists Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik will face compatriots Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun in a rematch of last week’s Malaysia Masters final, where Wei Chong–Kai Wun pulled off a stunning upset.

Aaron-Wooi Yik reached the quarterfinals by defeating Japan’s Takuro Hoki–Yugo Kobayashi in three thrilling sets: 21-18, 24-26, 21-12. Meanwhile, Wei Chong–Kai Wun, currently ranked World No. 8, eased past China’s young pairing Huang Di–Liu Yang, 21-16, 21-16.

Man Wei Chong emphasized unity and preparation over rivalry:

“The most important thing is that Malaysia has guaranteed a spot in the semifinals. We just have to stay ready.”

Tee Kai Wun added:

“We expected a longer rally style from the Chinese pair, but experience was on our side today.”
