Chan-Koo wary of Indonesians’ threat
PETALING JAYA: The Indonesian challenge is probably at its weakest in the mens doubles badminton competition of the 16th World Championships in Madrid. But Malaysias Koo Kien Keat chooses not to underestimate their strength.
The 21-year-old Kien Keat and his partner Chan Chong Ming are one of the three Malaysian pairs competing in the world meet, which starts in Madrid tomorrow.
The other Malaysians in the fray are world number three Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah and debutant Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari-Lin Woon Fui.
The world number five pair of Kien Keat-Chong Ming, who are competing in their second world meet as a pair, have been seeded joint 5th-8th in the world meet.
Indonesia may not have an outstanding pair in their line-up this time. But they can still pose a challenge.

PETALING JAYA: Except for a minor hitch, its all systems go for the national badminton team as they prepare for the World Championships.
The world meet will start tomorrow at the multi-tiered Palacio De Deportes in Madrid, which can accommodate up to 17,000 spectators.
Club pair Pek Siah and Hooi Yee out to reach the last eight
PETALING JAYA: Although they have trained together only for the last two weeks, former internationals Lim Pek Siah-Chor Hooi Yee are aiming to reach the quarter-finals in the womens doubles event at the World Championships.
Pek Siah and Hooi Yee are two of three members from the Kuala Lumpur Racket Club (KLRC) who will represent Malaysia in the world meet, which starts tomorrow in Madrid.

Super Dan claims Hong Kong open title to wait for World Championships
World number two Lin Dan of China beat world number one Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia 2-1 to claim the men's singles title of Hong Kong Open badminton championships here on Saturday.
Lin, dubbed as "Super Dan" by media, took more than one hour to clinch the title with a 21-19, 8-21, 21-16 victory, which is the third win for him from their previous four meetings.

Chong Wei and Tan Fook-Wan Wah crumble in HK Open final

PETALING JAYA: The expectations were high but when it came to the crunch, Lee Chong Wei and Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah crumbled in their respective finals in the Hong Kong Open badminton championships at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium yesterday.
World number one Chong Wei lost 19-21, 21-8, 16-21 to China's top seed Lin Dan in the men's singles while Tan Fook-Wan Wah fell 24-22, 16-21, 20-22 to Indonesia's Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan in the men's doubles.

Hong Kong Open: Chong Wei storms back

WORLD No 1 Lee Chong Wei snatched victory from the jaws of defeat when he edged Chen Jin of China in the Hong Kong Open badminton championships to reach the final at Queen Elizabeth Stadium yesterday.
Chong Wei recovered from a lethargic start to win 21-11, 19-21, 24-22 in 90 minutes.
It was also a fine day for Malaysia as veteran doubles pair Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah reached the final after beating World No 2 Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng of China 8-21, 21-19, 22-20.
