Glasgow: Women’s No. 4 seed and defending champion Carolina Marin of Spain was knocked out as action continued at the BWF World Championships in Glasgow.
The Rio Olympic champion was defeated by Japan’s No. 7 seed Nozomi Okuhara at the Emirates Arena.
Marin’s resilience was on full display when she fought back from 8-11 to level the score at 11-11 in the decider, but Okuhara reeled off with a grueling consecutive six-points to 19-14 before seeing off the Spaniard 21-18,14-21, 21-15 in a 93 minutes battle.
Okuhara will take on No. 12 seed Saina Nehwal in the semi-finals. P.V. Sindhu of India will meet Chen Yufei of China in other women’s semi-finals.
