Kuala Lumpur: The first round defeat to Brice Leverdez of France at World Championships three weeks ago was a tough pill to swallow for Lee Chong Wei, fortunately, he is happy to put that chapter behind him as he prepared for the Korea Open that will be held in Seoul Korea from Sept 12 to Sept 17.
“Of course was negative everything,” Lee said of his loss to Leverdez. “It’s hard for me to accept initially, especially I’ve worked very hard and I gave everything in training to get ready for the tournament.”
“Fortunately, it’s heartwarming to see the fans continue to show me their support and the government continue to recognize my contributions after I came back from Glasgow,” added Lee.
Lee was conferred the Panglima Jasa Negara (PJN) on Saturday, which carries the title Datuk in conjunction with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V’s official birthday.
“I didn’t touch the racquet and didn’t watch any matches after returning from Glasgow. I only spent time with my family, worked out, sit back and relax.”
“I was hoping for so much from the world championships,” Lee said, “but I put too much pressure on myself.”
The former World No. 1 is currently in Japan attending the first stop of The Legends’ Vision 2017 World Tour that was held in Japan for the first time on September 10th. The event was conducted on the last day of Japan Para-Badminton International tournament with the goal of drawing more attention to the developing sport of para-badminton.
