Kuala Lumpur: Former Malaysian men’s singles player Goh Soon Huat who switched to become a mixed doubles player partnering Shevon Jemie Lai at the end of last year, said the Denmark Open was the sweetest moments in his mixed doubles career and promised to learn the lessons of first round defeat at the French Open last Tuesday.
Goh/Lai established their career records by advancing to the semi-finals of a Super Series event for the first time at the Denmark Open only to have their momentum halted by No. 1 seeds Zheng Siwei/Chen Qingchen of China 16-21, 16-21 in the final four.
Nonetheless, the 27-year-old Goh remained upbeat despite first-round exit at French Open.
“In the Denmark Open, we played very well and almost reached the final. Although we were defeated in the semi-finals, but it really helped us understood our weaknesses and levels of play, so that we could continue to improve what’s still lacking,” said Goh.
“We made a lot of mistakes at French Open that allowed our opponents to score many easy points.”
“Both tournaments have provided us valuable opportunities to grow and to develop our skills as a pair.”
Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai are currently ranked World No. 14. They are slated to play at the China Open that will be held in Fuzhou, China from November 14 to 19 and Hong Kong Open from November 21 to 26.
