New Delhi: Men’s singles World No. 2 player Kidambi Srikanth of India has enjoyed a stellar year so far by winning four Superseries titles, and was honored with India’s “Sportsperson of the Year” Award at the Sanjeev Goenka Indian Sports Honours gala, in Mumbai on Sunday.
To add to that, both Kidambi Srikanth and PV Sindhu have already secured their spots in Dubai Super Series Finals that will be held from 13th December to 17th December, 2017.
In light of winning so many recognitions and awards, after withdrawing from the China Open due to a muscle strain, Kidambi Srikanth has pulled out of the Hong Kong Open that will kick off the qualifying round on Tuesday.
“Srikanth’s is almost completely recovered from his injury. But we would like to make sure he is at 100% before he plays at any tournaments, not even 90%, that’s why we’ve decided to pass on Hong Kong Open,” said India’s physiotherapist.
Despite Srikanth’s absence, other Indian shuttlers such as P.V. Sindhu, Saina Nehwal are hoping to end their season on a high at the Hong Kong Open.
The men’s singles World No. 10 HS Prannoy will take on the veteran player from Hong Kong – Hu Yun in the opening round. Women’s singles No. 2 seed P.V. Sindhu will meet a qualifier in the first round, and may face Aya Ohori of Japan in the second round.
Meanwhile, Saina Nehwal will open her Hong Kong Open women’s singles campaign against Denmark’s Mette Poulsen on Wednesday.
