Tan Wee Kiong marries girlfriend Chia Shi Ling

Kuala Lumpur: The Rio Olympic silver medalist Tan Wee Kiong married long-time girlfriend Chia Shi Ling on Sunday in a grand ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur.

Tan Wee Kiong, 28, and Chia Shi Ling, 28, completed their marriage registration on October 12th last year. They have known each other for seven years before tying the knot. However, due to his busy schedule, they couple has waited a year to hold the wedding reception that hosted about 700 guests on Dec 3, 2017.

The wedding ceremony was also attended by Malaysia’s Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar and President of Malaysia Badminton Association (BAM), Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria. Tan’s former men’s doubles partner, Goh V Shem was also there to celebrate with Tan.

“My responsibilities are now bigger both as a player and as a husband, but I will remain focus in my career,” said Tan.

Tan Wee Kiong started his new partnership with Ong Yew Sin in French Open in October, but were sent packing in the first round before advancing to the quarter-finals of Bitburger Open in Germany.

Although Tan/Ong were defeated in the quarter-finals of Hong Kong Open two weeks ago, they managed to stun No. 8 seeds Lee Yang/Lee Jhe-huei of Taiwan in the first round, and outlasted experienced pair of Tan Boon Heong-Hendra Setiawan in the second round.
