Jakarta: The rumor has swirled for over few days that Mulyo Handoyo, the man behind rise of India’s men’s singles shuttlers is set to quit Badminton Authority of India (BAI), after the end of the current Premier Badminton League season.
It was reported that Handoyo’s family and his 13-year-old child found it difficult to live in India for a long term and the coach is facing a difficult choice to either go back to Indonesia or stay in India without his family in the long run.
India’s head coach Pullela Gopichand had praised Handoyo for helping Indian badminton to reach new heights in numerous occasions as his training method has benefited several top Indian shuttlers such as Kidambi Srikanth who became the only fourth men’s singles player in badminton history to ever to win four Super Series titles in a year.
The Indonesian coach who has currently gone back to Indonesia, was also speculated to leave his post after receiving an offer from the Singapore Badminton Association.
Nevertheless, BAI president Himanta Biswa Sarma has refuted the news: “I am not aware of any such development.”
