Bangkok: The Rio Olympic men’s doubles silver medalists Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong seemed to have rediscover their motivation and confidence on the court when they won in their opening match easily on Wednesday by beating India’s Kapil Chaudhary/Brijesh Yadav, 21-6, 21-16 in the first round of Thailand Masters.
The pair who currently ranked World No. 29, will take on Hong Kong’s Lam Wai Lok/Li Kuen Hon in the second round.
“We followed our game plan today, and it turned out to be great. We are going to make careful preparations for Thursday’s match against Lam/Li of Hong Kong,” said Goh.
Malaysia’s men’s doubles head coach, Cheah Soon Kit, was happy to see that Goh/Tan were able to do on the court.
“It’s a good start for V Shem/Wee Kiong after being reunited. However, I hope they will continue to show improvements,” said Cheah.
In addition to Goh/Tan, another Malaysian pair Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi also checked into the second round.
Both men’s doubles pairs, Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong and Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi are expected to score points for the Malaysian team at the upcoming Asia Team Championship in Alor Seat next month, which is also a qualifying round for the 2018 Thomas Cup.
