Gold Coast: An overwhelming favorite to defend her women’s singles title, Michelle Li of Canada has moved to temper the 2018 Commonwealth Games expectations by remaining humble and deflecting praises to her opponents from Scotland, India and Malaysia.
“I don’t want to think too far ahead, I just want to play my best and take it one game at a time,” said Li.
Li who defeated Scot Kirsty Gilmour in the final at Glasgow 2014, said that besides Gilmour, she could also face stiff challenge from India’s PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, and Malaysia’s Soniia Cheah.
“I think this is part of my learning process and I am going to use this as my preparation for the 2020 Olympics,” added Li.
In addition to women’s singles, Li will also compete in the mixed team event and will partner Brian Yang in the mixed doubles event.
Meanwhile, Li, Sindhu, Nehwal and Gilmour were seeded top four in the women’s singles event.
