Taufik Hidayat pursuing a political career

Jakarta: Former World and Olympic men’s singles champion, Taufik Hidayat who retired from professional badminton in 2013, has decided to pursuit a political career.

The Indonesian badminton legend announced on his own social media page last Saturday that he has joined the Indonesia’s Democratic Party, which is led by 6th President of Indonesia – Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

Hidayat’s decision has received various reactions from badminton fans around the world.

Some fans advised the badminton legend to be a trustworthy politician and not mix badminton with politic while others said it was unfortunate that has become a politician but also warned Hidayat to be more careful in the political environment and he should stay within his “proper function”.
