LEE Chong Wei is in a confident mood after winning his third Super Series title in Indonesia on Sunday and the World No 1 hopes his near-perfect season will land him his maiden World Championships title in Hyderabad on Aug 10-16.
But Chong Wei was at pains to stress that it can only be achieved if he prepares well in the coming weeks.
"I am conditioning myself for the World Championships. I feel that it will be my year if I prepare well," said Chong Wei, who also bagged this year’s Malaysia and Swiss Open titles, in Johor Baru yesterday.
Chong Wei will be competing in his fifth world meet since taking the bronze on his debut in the 2005 edition in Anaheim, the United States.
"I have an idea of how I should prepare but I need to speak to my coach Misbun Sidek and the BA of Malaysia about it. I am determined to land the world title," he said.
Chong Wei, 27, definitely looks better prepared for Hyderabad as compared to previous years and the Malaysian proved his mettle by winning two titles (Swiss and Indonesia Opens) without his coach, Misbun, who has been on leave since March to attend to his sick wife.
"Misbun will always be important to me. I have been in contact with him over the past weeks for support and guidance," Chong Wei added.
"He (Misbun) might come down to Johor Baru to watch me play. I’m looking forward to it,"
Chong Wei is in Johor Baru to compete in the Yonex-Sunrise Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold, which starts today.
He should breeze past his opponents in the early rounds to set a possible final against Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat.
"I am not taking this tournament easy. Though there are not many big names here, I believe it will be a tough one for me to win," he added.
Meanwhile, World and Olympic champions Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan have pulled out from the tournament.
