Copenhagen: The reigning All England women’s doubles champions, Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Christinna Pedersen who revealed on October 2017 that they were lovers and have been in relationship for eight years, announced that Juhl is pregnant, and the pair is expecting their first child soon.
The 34-year-old Kamilla Rytter Juhl who won the 2009 mixed double World Championships title with Thomas Laybourn, told a Denmark TV station she was excited with the pregnancy.
“I have been trying for some time, it’s so great when we finally got pregnant. It’s always been our dream to start a family. Although it is a difficult decision to stop play badminton for a while, but I think this is the right choice.” said Juhl.
Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Christinna Pedersen started the 2018 season strong by winning the Malaysia Masters in January followed by the All England Championship in March. However, perhaps due to Juhl’s pregnancy, the pair was knocked out in the first round of the Malaysia Open and the Indonesia Open in June.
The current World No. 4 women’s pair from Denmark has won the 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017 European Championships. They also won the Rio Olympic silver medal after going down to Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi of Japan in a hard-fought 3-setter, losing 21-18, 9-21, 19-21.
