Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian badminton superstar Lee Chong Wei and his family were back home Sunday night after more than two-months in Taiwan receiving treatment for his early stage nose cancer.
Lee was initially advised by his doctors to get enough rest before flying home, but he was given the green light last week that would permit him to travel back to Malaysia.
Malaysian media had spent hours waiting at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Sunday, but to no avail.
Lee sent Malaysian media through a WhatsApp message Sunday afternoon urging them not to wait for him at the airport, as he needed more time to rest and said he would hold a press conference in the days to come.
“Dear media, please don’t have to wait for me at the airport, because I need more rest. Please go home (for those media already in the airport), I will rest for few days and will hold a press conference to meet all of you, thank you!”
From the WhatsApp message, we could hear that Lee was speaking with a deepening and unflattering tone of voice.
Lee and his family eventually landed at Subang airport (Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport) Sunday night and left the airport with a blue SUV.
It’s completely understandable that the media outlets are eager to produce and share news stories about Lee, but as mentioned by many parties, it’s highly appreciated that the media could give Lee and his family the privacy needed and stay disciplined to avoid causing any inconvenience to Lee’s family in the coming few days, weeks or even months.
