Tokyo: World No. 1 men’s singles player Kento Momota talked to to Japanese media for the first time at Narita International Airport on Saturday since the scandal between him and World No. 1 women’s doubles player Yuki Fukushima staying in the same room during a training camp erupted early last week.
“I am really sorry about the inconvenience this may have caused, I didn’t expect to cause such a big stir,” said Momota.
“I am taking this seriously and will be more careful with my behavior in the future,” added Momota.
“I’m determined to make amends for this by producing more good results.”
The 24-year-old reigning world champion and his teammates were departing for Denmark to compete at the Denmark Open that will be kick off in Odense, Denmark from October 16 to October 21.
Momota has been handed a tough first round at the Denmark Open, where he will open against Anthony Sinisuka Ginting on Indonesia. Ginting has defeated Momota in their last two encounters, including in the third round of Asian Games individual event, and the China Open final.
“I’ve studied his videos and have prepared some strategies to play against Ginting. I probably will utilize my speed to counter him,” answered Momota to reporters’ questions.
