Gwangju: Goh Jin Wei eased herself into the semi-finals of the Korea Masters with a straight sets win over Chiang Ying Li of Taiwan 21-9, 21-6 on Friday.
The 20-year-old Goh Jin Wei of Malaysia who claimed a second gold at this year’s world junior championships, will be up against the London Olympic Champion Li Xuerui of China in the semi-final.
Li, on the other hand, rallied to beat Fitriani Fitriani of Indonesia 21-14, 21-12.
“Today’s match seemed to be easy, but I was still a little nervous before getting into my own rhythm,” said Goh.
Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia has emerged as one of the tournament’s brightest young stars after reaching the Korea Masters semi-finals. He saw off Shesar Hiren Rhustavito of Indonesia 21-14, 21-13 on Friday. Lee is set to take on Sitthikom Thammasin of Thailand in the last four.
Sitthikom Thammasin, on the other hand, overcame another Malaysian player Soong Joo Ven 21-16, 16-21, 21-15 to advance to the semi-finals.
In men’s doubles, the Malaysian/Korean pair of Tan Boon Heong/Kim Sa Rang continued their strong run on Friday by defeating Indonesians and No. 5 seeds Berry Angriawan/Hardianto Hardianto 21-16, 21-17 to meet No. 8 seeds Po Li-Wei/Wang Chi-Lin of Taiwan next.
