Kento Momota sets to join Ampang Jaya for 2018/2019 Purple League

Kuala Lumpur: One of the biggest names in badminton today, World No. 1 men’s singles player Kento Momota of Japan has arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday and will be joining the Ampang Jaya Badminton Club roster that has a ton of highly desirable players. Ampang Jaya is going to set up a highly anticipated meet with last year’s Purple League runners-up, Kepong BC on Monday.

Momota will be facing World No. 76 Soong Joo Ven in the first men’s singles match. Then, Momota will be celebrating Christmas in Malaysia by meeting his fans in the morning, and will be hosting a coaching session at a badminton charity event in the afternoon.

He will most likely be going to take on World No. 36 Lee Cheuk Yiu on Wednesday in a tie between Ampang Jaya and Puchong United Badminton Club.

Meanwhile, the 2018/2019 season of Purple League continue to get underway Sunday, as the defending champions Puchong United getting back on top of overall standing after beating Bukit Mertajam All Stars Badminton Club 15-5.

Although Petaling Badminton BC started the season with a loss to Ampang Jaya last Friday, but they managed to redeem themselves with a 15-4 over Bandar Maharani Badminton Club on Sunday.

The rules and format for Purple League are as follow:
1. Each match’s duration is 30 minutes. The winner is the one leading at the end of the duration.
2. The league is using the 11×5 scoring format.
3. A tie would be decided by two men’s singles, one men’s doubles, one woman’s singles, and one mixed doubles.
4. The winning team will be decided through overall accumulated sets win by its player. For example, at the end of the tie between Team A and Team B, if Team A’s players have won total of 11 sets, while Team B’s players have won a total of 10 sets during that tie, the final score would be Team A beat Team B with 11-10.
