Goh Soon Huat eyes the Olympic stage in Tokyo

Kuala Lumpur: Being able to compete in the Olympic Games is the dream of every sport person, and Malaysia’s mixed doubles player Goh Soon Huat is also hoping he’ll be at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, competing at the highest international level.

Goh Soon Huat and his mixed doubles partner – Shevon Jemie Lai are currently ranked World No. 12. They were paired together at the end of 2016 after Goh found limited success in men’s singles and decided to try his luck in mixed doubles.

The 28-year-old has always been showing his fighting spirit the minute he steps on the court. He also welcomes the healthy competition between them and Malaysia’s independent pair – the World No. 6 Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying. He believed Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying would give them a lot of energy and motivate them to get stronger.

“Yes, we have set our goals to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. All our preparations are aiming to help us accomplish that mission,” said Goh.

The World No. 12 pair will give their best performance possible during the Olympic qualifying period. The Olympic qualification period will take place between April 29, 2019 and April 26, 2020, and the Badminton World Federation rankings list, scheduled to publish on April 30, 2020, will be used to allocate spots.

“We have a few more months to prepare before the start of Olympic qualification. It doesn’t mean we will only get serious during that time, instead, we need to pay serious attention at every tournament from now on,” said Goh.
