Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysian badminton legend, Lee Chong Wei shared an inspiring story on his personal Facebook on Sunday. Lee who presented the Malaysia Open men’s singles awards to both Lin Dan (champion) and Chen Long (runner-up), said that his youngest son, Terence was quick to notice the incredible resemblance of the picture he took with Lin Dan and Chen Long during the Malaysia Open awards ceremony with the picture of the 2012 London Olympics final.
Lee then posted both pictures and message below on his Facebook page to keep the badminton fans excited:
“It was an awesome end to Malaysia Open. I wish to represent our badminton team to thank you fans for ensuring Malaysia Open maintain its glamour and prestige.
Also I took the chance to meet with old friends from all around the world. Safe journey to wherever you go. And good luck in Singapore if you participate.
When I reached home last night, I showed my two boys, Kingston and Terence the photos I took. When I showed them the photo of Lin, Chen and I on the podium, Terence shouted,” Pa, it looks the same like the one you placed on the cabinet “. It was the photo of us three during 2012 Olympics. I was shaken. Despite being born in 2015, Terence has never seen me play in the Olympics. I hope your dad can show to you next year, my Son.”
Lee had played in four Summer Olympics, winning silver at each of the last three Olympic Games.
However, the world ranking of Lee has dropped drastically after eight months of absence from tournaments. The former World No. 1 is now ranked World No. 44. He would need to be ranked within the top 38 by April 30th, 2020 in order to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.
Should his health permit him to get back to intensive training and to compete at higher level tournaments, we have no doubt that Lee would enter World’s top 38 in the weeks before the end of the Olympic qualification period.
