Kuala Lumpur: After nearly a one-month layoff due to a dizzy spell, and then a thigh muscle pull followed by the hamstring injury, Malaysia’s World No. 13 mixed doubles player Goh Soon Huat is expected to make a timely recovery so that he and his partner Shevon Jemie Lai could participate at the Indonesian Super 1000 tournament that will be held from July 16th to July 23rd.
The pair has not played in any tournaments after the Sudirman Cup in Nanning, China at the end of May.
Shevon Jemie Lai told reporters after the training session on Tuesday that she and Goh should be able to participate at the Indonesia Open that will take place at Istora Gelora Bung Karno in Jakarta, Indonesia three weeks from now.
“Soon Huat’s injury is a bit strange. He couldn’t put too much motion and power to the thigh muscles, and the doctor couldn’t find out the root cause of the problem. However, after a period of rest, Soon Huat has gradually recovered from the injury. He has resumed minor training last week, and was able to perform light to middle intensity training this week,” said Lai.
“Now Soon Huat is able to train with the rest of the team, but he would still try not to jump or smash to avoid the aggravation of his existing injury. I think after sometime, he should be fully recovered from the injury. But if his nagging injuries kept him from performing to his full potential, we would need to skip the tournament,” added Lai.
Although the pair had already withdrawn from the Australian Open that took place in Sydney early June, but Lai still offered her support to Goh in such a special circumstance.
“Of course I am worried, but the most important thing is that my partner can make a healthy return avoiding the consequences of re-aggravating his injury,” said Lai.
