Wong Choong Hann gives Lim Chong King a chance to prove himself

Kuala Lumpur: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Coaching Director Wong Choong Hann has a special reason why Lim Chong King was promoted to the senior team and will be coached by Hendrawan.

According to Wong, the 19-year-old men’s singles players had shown great potential in his previous two tournaments, therefore, BAM has decided to make Lim eligible to train with senior players.

“Not only at the National Championships, Chong King was able to play well at some competitive tournaments as well,” said Wong.

“He was able to beat the No. 3 seed Sheng Xiaodong of Canada and Muhammad Febriansyah from Indonesia at the recently concluded Malaysia International Series,” added Wong.

Clearly, Wong was determined to give the young player the time and opportunity he needed so that he could grow into better player.

“I want young players like Chong King to learn from the senior players.”

“The senior players can share experience with him after the game, discussing about game plan and tactics.”

“I want them to be more open to learning and sharing about their experience,” said the former World No. 1 player.

Wong would also like the 19-year-old to show quick improvement and to shine in upcoming tournaments.

He also hoped Hendrawan would bring positive impact to the SEA Games and the Thomas Cup squad along with the Tokyo Olympics 2020 qualifying.

“Currently, we are more focused on Zii Jia for the Olympic qualification, but I hope we can do more than that.”
