Kento Momota returns to training next Monday following the fatal car accident

Tokyo: The World No. 1 men’s singles player, Kento Momota, appeared to be edging closer to a return after his recent injury layoff from a car crash that happened on January 13, 2020.

The Nippon Badminton Association (NBA) released a statement on January 31 saying Kento Momota will officially return to the Japanese national badminton team training camp next Monday, February 3rd.

Japan’s national badminton team head coach Park Joo-bong also confirmed the news.

“As scheduled, Momota will be able to participate in the intensive training with the Japanese national team on February 3rd,” said Park.

“It’s really a great news for us. However, we also want to be careful, and take it slow during his recovery phase,” explained Park.

“We will increase the intensity gradually and his current goal would be to prepare for the All England. Please continue to support the Japanese team.” added Park.

Three weeks ago, just hours after Momota secured his first victory of the season at the Malaysia Masters, Momota and the three other passengers were en route to Kuala Lumpur International Airport when the van they were in rammed into the rear of a 30-tonne truck and the van driver was killed on the scene.
