Women’s No. 1 Wang Yihan of China unexpectedly joined the men’s top seed Lee Chong Wei who lost in the first round on Wednesday, after losing the second round 21-18, 21-17 to Malaysia’s Wong Mew Choo at the China Badminton Open here on Thursday.

Wang opened the first set 5-1, and maintained the advantage to 11-6. Wong got the chance to get rejuvenated after the technical time-out, hitting

firm attacks to draw the score 14-14 before Wang made errors afterwards to lose the first set 21-18.

The second set also started with Wang leading. She found herself 6-2 ahead in the early part of the match. However, Wong received several lucky

points after that, striving to get past Wang 10-9, and continued widening the gap between them in the following part of the second set.

Wong managed to knock down six straight points to establish a 20-12 lead, grabbing eight match points. Wang succeeded in saving five of them,

but made a fatal mistake to lose the match 21-17.

Wong stayed calm after beating world No.1 Wang.

"I didn’t think too much about that," She said. "I just tried my best to fight."

Wang was satisfied with the performance of saving five match points. "I was too far behind. If I made fewer errors, I could have got a better chance."
