Birmingham: After losing to World No. 1 Chen Yu Fei of China in last year’s All England women’s singles final, Taiwan’s World No. 2 Tai Tzu Ying exacted a sweet revenge in Birmingham by claiming her third All England title on Sunday.
Tai who won the event in 2017, 2018, defeated Chen in her fourth All England final 21-19, 21-15 in 46 minutes.
“I am very familiar with the arena, and I’m very excited to win the All England title again,” said Tai.
“Chen and I are very familiar with each other’s playing style, I have been trying to cut down my mistakes today, and that proved to be crucial in today’s match,” added Tai.
“I try to keep her under pressure, and I was happy to win,” explained Tai.
Tai has tied the record with former women’s singles greats, Ye Zhaoying, Xie Xinfang to become the third women’s singles player to win three All England titles.
In women’s doubles, Japan’s World No. 3 Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota didn’t give China’s World No. 6 Du Yue/Li Yinhui any breathing rooms by beat the Chinese pair 21-13, 21-15.
Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Praveen Jordan who won the 2016 All England with Debby Susanto, this time, partnering Melati Daeva Oktavianti, came back from dropping the second set to outlast World No. 3 Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand 21-15, 17-21, 21-8 to claim the mixed doubles title.
