NEW DELHI: World Champion Lin Dan of China won his maiden Asian badminton championship title with a clinical demolition of Zhenming Wang in the men’s singles final on Sunday. Lin Dan won Asian Badminton Championship

 

Dan, the Olympic and three-time World Champion, who also has four All-England Badminton titles, demolished the Chinese youngster 21-17, 21-15.

In the women’s final, it was again an all-Chinese clash with Li Xuerui, who knocked out top seeded Saina Nehwal, emerged winner after a hard-fought 21-13, 18-21, 21-19 win over Xin Li.

 

Malaysian pair of Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying overcame stiff ressistance from Korean pair of Yoo Yeon Seong-Kim Min Jung 21-17, 20-22, 21-19 to win mixed doubles gold.

 

Although, most of the finals were close, Lin Dan’s exploits were what a good crowd had come to see and they were not left disappointed as the Chinese enthralled them with a great exhibition of his skills.

 “It’s great to win my first Asian Badminton title and the last two tournaments that I played—the All-England and the Swiss Open—I wasn’t playing well, so it’s an important win here,” said the 26-year-old Dan after his win.
