Kuala Lumpur: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has confirmed that another Malaysian national badminton player was tested positive for COVID-19.
In a statement published on Sunday, BAM said that the third swab test conducted on 91 players at Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) on Saturday, came back with one positive result.
“UPDATE ON SWAB TESTS ON SATURDAY AT THE ABM
Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) conducted a third round of tests on a total of 91 athletes, coaches, and support staff at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara yesterday. Of these, only one tested positive.
All athletes and officials stationed at the ABM are set to continue observing a period of self-isolation in accordance with the Ministry of Health (KKM), Ministry of Youth & Sports (KBS), National Sports Council (MSN) and National Sports Institute (ISN) protocol on quarantine until further notice.
BAM will continue to work hard alongside KKM and follow all directives outlined by health authorities to safeguard the health, safety and well-being of all at the national badminton training centre.
Everyone at the Association wishes all the athletes a speedy recovery.”
On April 17, six players at ABM were tested positive for COVID-19, and on April 23, eight more players received positive results. The latest incident saw the total number of COVID-19 infections at ABM had increased to 15 players.
Meanwhile, Badminton Europe reported that Denmark’s men’s doubles player Joel Eipe has tested positive for COVID-19 upon his arrival in the hotel in Kyiv, Ukraine. Both Eipe and his men’s doubles partner Rasmus Kjaer, who was considered as “close contact” to Eipe, would need to perform a 13-day self-quarantine in their hotel rooms per the COVID-19 protocol for the 2021 European Championships which starts on Tuesday 27 April.
