SHANGHAI – The hosts stormed to a near-clean sweep of the China Open Super Series in Shanghai on Sunday, the all-powerful country cementing its dominance of the sport.
The fifth-seeded Chen Long came from a game down to beat his eighth-seeded fellow Chinese Bao Chunlai 9-21, 21-14, 21-16 to battle to the men’s singles title.
In the women’s singles, which was also an all-Chinese affair, the fourth-seeded Jiang Yanjiao upset third-seeded Wang Shixian 21-16, 21-19. Wang won gold at the Asian Games in Guangzhou last month.
In the men’s doubles, the Korean duo of Jung Jae-Sung and Lee Yong-Dae, the fourth seeds, took just 40 minutes to smash past China’s Chai Biao and Zhang Nan 21-15, 21-12.
The Koreans were the only non-Chinese players competing in any of Sunday’s five finals.
Unseeded pair Tao Jiaming and Tian Qing won the mixed doubles crown over fifth-seeds and compatriots Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei, who went down 21-18, 21-17.
The women’s doubles final was won by second seeds Cheng Shu and Zhao Yunlei in a walkover.
