Sweet victory for Chong Wei

WITH this sweet victory over arch rival Lin Dan of China in the All-England Badminton Championship in Birmingham, Datuk Lee Chong Wei has done the nation proud by being the first player to successfully defend the title.

His 21-17, 21-17 victory over Lin Dan has boosted his image, confidence and chances of doing well in the World Badminton Championship to be held in London in August.

Throughout the championship, Chong Wei was in excellent condition to play the best badminton of his life.

This was the rivals’ 25th encounter and Chong Wei’s 7th victory. But it was his most important and meaningful win over the Chinese ace. This will put Lin Dan under pressure the next time they meet.

From what we have seen, Chong Wei managed to put up a flawless display against all his opponents and played with confidence and maturity especially in the final. The way he matched Lin Dan in all aspects of the game deserves our respect and praise. His consistency and high level of performance really made the difference this time.

With his great mindset and positive attitude, plus the will and hunger to win, we are all confident that Chong Wei will bring more glory to the nation in the World Badminton Championship and land Malaysia’s first gold medal in the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
