Chinese shuttlers stamped their domination in world badminton once again when they won all but the men’s doubles title in the China Masters super series in Changzhou on Sunday.
The Chinese team, which swept last month’s world championships for the second year running, won four titles after securing one-two finishes in three out of the five events.
Chen Long won the men’s singles title, defeating compatriot Chen Jin 21-16 22-20, while Jiang Yanjiao retired after injuring her knee to give team mate Wang Shixian the women’s singles crown.
Women’s doubles world champions Yu Yang and Wang Xiaoli also retired, with the title going to their teenage team mates Huan Xia and Tang Jinhua.
"It is a pity that we couldn’t finish the final. We were eager to defend our title but both of us aren’t in the good condition," Yu said.
"I had a stomach problem after arriving in Changzhou, and my partner sprained her ankle in yesterday’s match."
South Korean pair Jung Jae-Sung and Lee Yong-Dae denied China the clean sweep by defeating world champion duo Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng 21-17 21-10 in the men’s doubles final.
In mixed doubles, China’s Xu Chen and Ma Jin defeated South Koreans Yoo Yeon-Seong and Jang Ye-Na 21-13 21-16.
