KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 — World number one singles, Datuk Lee Chong Wei advanced to the men’s singles final of the Denmark Open badminton championship to be held in Odense, Denmark Sunday.
The top Malaysian shuttler, who is also the first seed in the championship, beat Denmark’s Peter Hoeg Gade 21-19, 23-21 in a 40-minute clash Saturday night.
Chong Wei, who is chasing his sixth title this year, will face world number four, Cheng Long from China and was the only Malaysian to proceed to the final round of the championship.
Earlier, the Malaysian men’s doubles pair of Hoon Thien How/Tan Wee Kiong lost in the semifinals this morning to the Chinese top pair of Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng 11-21, 11-21.
Malaysia’s top pair of Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong were surprisingly ousted much earlier in the first round on Wednesday when they lost to the South Korean pair of Cho Gun Woo/Kwon Yi Goo 21-15, 15-21, 12-21.
