Aarhus: The young Malaysian Uber cup team who arrived in Aarhus hoping to advance to the quarter-finals, ended up losing all their tie and was ranked last place in Group D.
In their last tie against Canada, Malaysia’s World No. 53 Kisona Selvaduray continued to struggle, losing to World No. 183 Talia Ng 9-21, 14-21.
Kisona was leading 6-5 in the first set before letting her Canadian opponent reeling off 8 consecutive points to lead at 13-6. The Malaysian eventually lost the first game 9-21.
In a similar fashion, after leading 11-10 in the second game, Kisona allowed Ng to score 6 consecutive points to trail at 11-16 and lost the second set 14-21.
Teoh Mei Xing/Yap Ling gave Malaysia a glimpse of hope when they stole the first set from World No. 20 Rachel Honderich/Kristen Tsai 21-13. Nevertheless, Honderich/Tsai raised their level of play to take the second and the third set 21-10, 21-14 to give Canada a 2-0 lead.
Rachel Chan secured the win for Canada by beating Eoon Qi Xuan 21-12, 21-13 in the second women’s singles match.
Malaysia avoided a clean sweep by Canada when Go Pei Kee/Thinaah Muralitharan picked up the only point for their country by overcoming Catherine Choi/Crystal Lai 21-12, 21-13.
Karupathevan Letshanaa then finished the proceeding with a 21-17, 16-21, 12-21 loss to Wen Yu Zhang of Canada in the third women’s singles match.
