SANDAKAN, Nov 24 — Winning the 2011 World Youth Badminton Championship has fired up Zulfadli Zulkiffli to perform well in every tournament he is participating.
Currently he is competing in the Proton Malaysia International Challenge 2011 at the Sandakan Sports Complex, after which he will be in action at the Macau Open Championship at the end of this month.
"My attention now is on giving my best performance in international meets irrespective of the opponents," he said after defeating Takeshita Riichi of Japan in the second round of the Proton international challenge, here, Thursday.
Zulfadli, 18, is aware of the presence of many foreign players at this event who would be providing stiff competition at every stage.
According to him, all singles players including those from Malaysia had their individual edge and he would need to play seriously in every match to progress in the tournament.
Zulfadli, a badminton player with the professional club KLRC, won the 2011 Asian Youth Badminton singles title in April.
Meanwhile, his coach who is also his father, Zulkifli Sidek, said he was satisfied with Zulfadli’s level of play despite having to turn out at two consecutive championships this month after being crowned the world youth single’s champion.
He said Zulfadli was prepared for this international challenge as well as the Macau Open which would draw the participation of many of the world’s best singles players.
