Ong/Teo were once trailing 4-14 in the second set, but they kept working hard, stayed positive, and showed a never-give-up spirit to eventually stage an amazing comeback to beat Eipe/Rasmus in 39 minutes.
Another Malaysian men’s doubles pair, the World No. 18 Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin was forced to work hard by World No. 36 Alexander Dunn/Adam Hall of Scotland, fended off a surprising challenge by the Scottish pair on Tuesday, successfully reeling off 5 consecutive points when trailing 12-14 to ultimately win the match 21-14, 19-21, 21-16 in 55 minutes.
Goh/Izzuddin will take on Tokyo Olympics champions Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin next.
In men’s singles, the World No. 27 Lu Guang Zu of China continued his strong run at the World Championships, knocking out World No. 4 Chou Tien Chen of Taiwan 14-21, 21-15, 21-15 to advance to the third round. Lu will battle World No. 14 Kidambi Srikanth of India for a spot in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, another Indian player, the World No. 19 Lakshya Sen created a surprise to down World No. 17 Kenta Nishimoto of Japan 22-20, 15-21, 21-18 to set up a third-round meeting with the Tokyo Olympics semi-finalist, Kevin Cordon of Guatemala.
Cordon, who is bidding for his best performance at the World Championships, brushed aside Michal Rogalski of Poland 21-14, 21-19 on Tuesday.
