Congratulations to PV Sindhu for winning the 2022 Swiss Open title.

Basel: India’s World No. 7 PV Sindhu won her second title of the season at the 2022 Swiss Open on Sunday. Sindhu had won the 2022 Syed Modi International Super 300 in Lucknow in January this year.

The 26-year-old Indian needed 49 minutes to overcome Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan 21-16, 21-8 for the Swiss Open women’s singles title.

Highlights of PV Sindhu vs. Busanan Ongbamrungphan:

The victory was Sindhu’s 16th win over Ongbamrungphan in their 17 career meetings. Sindhu only lost to Ongbamrungphan once at the 2019 Hong Kong Open.

This was also Sindhu’s second consecutive Swiss Open final as Sindhu had lost to Rio Olympic gold medallist Carolina Marin of Spain in the final of the 2021 edition.

Basel has always been a lucky place for Sindhu who had won the 2019 World Championships title at the same venue.

In women’s doubles, Gabriela Stoeva/Stefani Stoeva of Bulgaria saw off Linda Efler/Isabel Lohau of Germany 21-14, 21-12 for the Swiss Open title.

In the mixed doubles final, Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai of Malaysia seemed to run out of steam in the decider, making a lot of unforced errors, allowing Mark Lamsfuss/Isabel Lohau of Germany to walk away with a 12-21, 21-18, 21-17 w. This would be Lamsfuss/Lohau’s first win against the Malaysian pair in their 5th meeting.
