Badminton News – MALAYSIA’S singles challenge, in the absence of defending champion Lee Chong Wei, ended but men’s doubles led by Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong performed beyond expectations in the Indonesia Open premier super series in Jakarta yesterday.
Kien Keat-Boon Heong overcame their two consecutive defeats to Angga Pratama-Ryan Agung Saputra by securing a 21-14, 21-17 over the Indonesian back-up pair in 34 minutes.

Hoon Thien How-Tan Wee Kiong were also through when they upset Indonesian World No 6 Mohammad Ahsan-Bona Septano 21-16, 19-21, 21-17 in 60 minutes.
They will play another Indonesian pair Andre Adistia-Christopher Rusdianto, who beat China’s Liu Xiaolong-Qiu Zihan 21-19, 25-23, in the second round today.
Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah were due to play Indonesia’s Rendy Sugiarto-Afiat Yuris Wirawan in another late match yesterday.
Women’s doubles Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui, playing in their last tournament together, recorded a 21-14, 21-14 win over Sujitra Ekmongkolpaisarn-Peeraya Munkitamorn of Thailand to set up a second round meeting with South Korea’s Jung Kyung Eun-Kim Ha Na today.
Hafiz Hashim took top seed Chen Long of China to the limit and even led 18-15 in the deciding game but stumbled to a 16-21, 21-11, 21-19 defeat in 65 minutes.
Liew Daren also found the going tough against the much improved Dane Hans Kristian Vittinghus and lost 21-14, 23-25, 21-14 in 65 minutes.
Mixed doubles Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying were also due to play a late match yesterday against Indonesia’s Muhammad Rijal-Debby Susanto in their final warm-up before next month’s Olympics.
