Goh V Shem/Lim Khim Wah, Goh Jin Wei Advance to Taipei Open Second Round

Taipei: The 2014 Malaysia Open men’s doubles champions – Goh V Shem/Lim Khim Wah celebrated their reunion at the 2022 Taipei Open by beating Chiu Hsiang Chieh/Yang Ming-Tse of Chinese Taipei 13-21, 21-19, 21-12 on Wednesday to advance to the second round.

The Taipei Open was their first tournament as a pair after breaking up in 2014.

Before parting ways, both Goh/Lim managed to emerge as the 2014 Malaysia Open champion and runners-up for the 2014 Malaysia Masters.

They will meet another Taiwanese pair – Lee Chia Han/Lin Yong Shen on Thursday to battle for a place in the quarter-finals.

In men’s singles, Soong Joo Ven of Malaysia also confirmed a spot in the second round after defeating his sparring partner, Cheam June Wei 15-21, 21-17, 21-16. The unseeded Soong will take on No. 6 seed Koki Watanabe of Japan next.

In the women’s singles competition, Malaysia’s two-time World Junior champion – Goh Jin Wei had a relatively easy first round as she overcame Tanya Hemanth of India 21-14, 21-10 to set up a second-round meeting with Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi of Indonesia.

Another Malaysian women’s singles representative, Eoon Xi Quan beat Tereza Svabikova of the Czech Republic 21-12, 21-18 to book a meeting with American Lauren Lam in the second round.
