Malaysia’s upcoming shuttler Chong Wei Feng proved his mettle on court in Men’s Singles first round contest and stamped his mark over the home favourite Kenichi Tago at the Yonex Japan Open 2012 at Tokyo, Japan, on Wednesday, September 19.
It was one of the best battles of the day as the lower ranked Wei Feng gave a spectacular show of aggressive and positive badminton and outplayed the World Number Nine Tago who was seeded at number five in Men’s Singles world placements.
Wei Feng was in his prime form on court as he played with impressive badminton and defied all odds to overpower Tago in a nail-biting contest in rubber games with a thrilling margin on the score board.
On the contrary, the higher ranked Tago had to work really hard to live up to the expectations of his home fans but he failed to prove his worth in the ending points of final set and eventually crashed out in the opening round.
The Malaysian shuttler failed to play well in opening set of the contest as Tago played with impressive speed and remained successful in taking a remarkable lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Wei Feng tried his best to find his flow but failed to put up strong show and eventually lost the opening set with a huge margin of 8-21.
However, it was Wei Feng’s show in the second game as he put up spectacular show and remained successful in winning the second game with a 21-16 score on the board.
The deciding set was almost identical when Wei Feng continued his positive run and thrashed his challenger by taking it with a reasonable margin of 21-17.
Wei Feng won this contest in three games with a superb 8-21, 21-16 and 21-17 score on the board.
After the match Chong Wei stated, “The first game was very hard to control because of the draft in the hall. I think he faced the same situation in the second game. So in the third game, I knew I had to change my tactics to win so I started to attack more and it worked.”
In Men’s Singles second round, Wei Feng will play against Ajay Jayaram who is an in-form shuttler.
