Ng Tze Yong To Play Cheam June Wei in 2022 Indonesia Masters Quarters

Malang: The No. 1 seed Ng Tze Yong advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2022 Indonesia Masters by knocking off compatriot Shahyar Shaqeem 21-16, 21-13 on Thursday.

He will next face fellow Malaysian Cheam June Wei on Friday.

On the other hand, the No. 7 seed Cheam needed 52 minutes to overcome the qualifier Jung Min Seon of Korea 21-13, 13-21, 21-16.

Malaysia’s unseeded Leong Jun Hao also entered the quarter-finals as he pulled off an upset to beat No. 2 seed Koki Watanabe of Japan 21-17, 15-21, 21-18.

Leong will take on Cho Geonyeop of Korea for a spot in the semi-finals.

In men’s doubles, No. 2 seeds Junaidi Arif/Muhammad Haikal of Malaysia were made to work before edging past Indonesia’s Reinard Dhanriano/Kenas Adi Haryanto 18-21, 21-16, 21-18. Arif/Haikal are set to play another Indonesian pair – No. 5 seeds Rahmat Hidayat/Pramudya Kusumawardana next.

Meanwhile, in the women’s singles quarter-finals, No. 5 seed Kisona Selvaduray of Malaysia will meet up with last week’s 2022 Indonesia International Challenge champion Gao Fang Jie of China on Friday.
